Lynn Spinnato
![]() As a Photographer, Cinematographer, Producer and Director, Lynn Spinnato has been behind the camera professionally for more than twenty-five years. Now, running Spinnato Gallery, she's focusing on her own Fine Art Photography and Portraitures. After graduating from SUNY Stony Brook and taking graduate courses at New York's School of Visual Arts, NYU and F.I.T., Spinnato landed a position with a Manhattan photography studio and was launched into the field of Advertising. She assisted and shot for such clients as Revlon, American Express, and Placido Domingo. Still Photography opened the doors to a staff position at Young & Rubicam on Madison Avenue, where she eventually produced television commercials for a client list which included Jell-O with Bill Cosby, New York Telephone, Johnson & Johnson, and Colgate Palmolive. Spinnato left Madison Avenue in 1989 for the Music Industry, when she was recruited by Atlantic Records to Produce Music Videos and short Documentaries. During her six years at Atlantic she produced hundreds of Music Videos all over the globe, working with some of the most celebrated musicians, actors, and filmmakers in the business. She relocated to Los Angeles and added to her credits Artists including: Stevie Nicks, Foreigner, The Corrs, Clannad, Collective Soul, Tracy Lawrence, Ace Frehley, Pantera, Jelly Bean, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Rush, to name just a few. She Executive Produced video promos for movies including, "The Crow", "Patriot Games", "Reality Bites", and "The Prophecy". In addition to the Music Videos, she wrote and directed interviews and short biographies, ultimately receiving recognition and awards for her moving images from Billboard Magazine, MTV, and VH-1. Her photographs appeared on CD covers and posters for bands like The Stone Temple Pilots and organizations like The United Way. On a cold winter day, in an abandoned theater in Columbus, Ohio, while working with her all time musical idol, Robert Plant, Spinnato had a surprising epiphany … it was time to get back to her roots and focus on her original passion …. still photography. Back home, in Port Jefferson, Long Island, Lynn Spinnato dedicates herself to still photography in portraitures and gallery images. Primarily in black and white, at times hand-colored, often lonely in its beauty, Spinnato expresses a single moment in time. She uses a mixture of photographic dyes, pastels and dry dyes to individually manipulate and add color to her silver gelatin and giclée limited editions. "Beauty in all its depth, honesty, and a higher power are what drive me. I'm blessed to have come to know this through the people I've met and the places I've journeyed." Today, along with running her gallery, she shoots commissioned portraits and weddings and continues to offer her services to charity organizations including: Hope House Ministries, The Greater Port Jefferson Arts Council, Christmas Magic, Cut For A Cure, and a terminally ill children's charity called, Friends of Karen. Down the road she is looking to publish an amusing and insightful compilation of her photographs and written journals from 'The Atlantic Years'. |
